We had such an amazing time with the Regions of France Wine Dinner here at Lied Lodge on Saturday night. With 104 people in attendance, we ate French food “chateau-style,” drank delicious French wines, made new friends, and even learned a lot, too.
Our very own Chef Nick Maloney and wine expert Josh Tebben of Johnson Brothers Liquor Company both did a fine job of explaining and guiding us through all five courses of food and wine, painting a vivid picture of the regions, flavors, and the intricacies of the grapes in our glasses.

Greenhouse Report: The Upcoming Growing Season

Tomorrow marks the official first day of spring, and the greenhouse staff at Arbor Day Farm is busy getting ready for another production season. It’s true that we grow year round, but during the spring and summer we take advantage of nature’s kind gifts – sunlight and longer days – and grow an outdoor crop as well.
All plants grown at Arbor Day Farm’s greenhouses are propagated from seed. During the month of May, we will sow over 250,000 seeds – Colorado Blue Spruce, White Pine, Norway Spruce, and Bald Cypress. As you might imagine, sowing a quarter of a million seeds by hand would take an enormous amount of time. So we embrace another gift – the gift of mechanization and technology – to help us keep up with the demand.

When my family and I relocated to Nebraska City two years ago from Central Gulf Coast Florida, we couldn’t have imagined the natural beauty and outdoor adventures in Nebraska that continue to amaze us even now.
We visited in March for a house hunting trip and were thrilled to experience a Nebraska snowfall during our visit. Honestly, I think the beautiful fireplace at Lied Lodge and the gentle snow were major selling factors for us. The excitement of snow and four distinct seasons charged the enthusiasm of our teenagers.
